Transit City beats subways
(Toronto) --
Transport Action Ontario is calling on Toronto city councillors to
reject Mayor Ford’s plan for two subway lines in place of Transit
City.
“The proposed subway lines are unaffordable and will
absorb billions of dollars that would be better spent on Transit
City’s major light rail routes like the Eglinton Cross Town line,
Sheppard Rapid Transit and Finch RT lines,” Peter Miasek,
President, Transport Action Ontario says.
Mr. Ford’s
multibillion dollar, poorly conceived plan will ruin Toronto and
waste millions of taxpayers dollars already spent on the design of
Transit City and millions more on cancelled contracts. Transit
City is a good, economical plan that will meet the travel needs of
Torontonians and get our gridlocked city moving again.
“Stopping
the 'Gravy Train' starts with not building wasteful transit projects.
Transit City suits the current economic climate and will satisfy
current and projected ridership demands,” Miasek says.
