Transport Action is a registered charity (Registration number 11926 8571 RR0001) and is involved with research, public education and advocacy, representation of the consumer interest before federal, provincial and municipal public hearings and regulatory bodies, direction of consumer complaints to public carriers, and other activities. Transport Action operates as a federation of seven regional associations, each concerned with local and regional issues, and membership is open to all. Most of the work of Transport Action is accomplished by dedicated volunteers. An office is maintained in Ottawa with volunteer staff.

Transport Action Canada's office will issue charitable receipts for donations which are eligible for tax credit in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency regulations and policies.

The national office maintains an extensive library of transportation-related publications and documents. It assists regional groups in preparation of briefs and position papers and develops a common approach to issues of national importance. The national office undertakes original transportation research and provides consulting and research services under contract.
